- Delivery Time: 7 working days
- Packaging Details: WOODEN DRUM
Construction details
- Conductor: The cable features three cores, each with a stranded, compacted circular aluminum conductor.
- Insulation: Each aluminum conductor is insulated with Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE), a material known for its superior electrical and weather-resistant properties.
- Screening: Each insulated core is typically screened with a semi-conducting compound to enhance performance and protect against partial discharge. For added
- protection, some cables include a layer of copper tape.
- Armoring: While ABC cables are often unarmored, some variants include flat steel strip armoring for enhanced mechanical protection.
- Sheath: An overall black PVC sheath provides additional protection for the entire cable bundle.
- Messenger Wire: Many HT ABC cables include a central bare messenger wire, usually made of aluminum alloy, which provides the cable's structural support and carries its weight.
- Voltage rating: 22kV (E), indicating a High-Tension (HT) cable for 22,000-volt applications with an earthed system.
- Number of cores: 3 cores, suitable for a three-phase power supply system.
- Conductor size: 150 sqmm, referring to the 150 square millimeter cross-sectional area of each conductor.
- Operating environment: These cables are built to withstand a range of climatic conditions, including high humidity and wind pressures.
Applications and benefits
Power distribution: ABC cables are widely used in overhead power distribution, offering a modern alternative to traditional bare conductors.
-
- Safety: The insulated conductors prevent accidental contact with live wires and reduce the risk of outages from falling tree branches or wind damage, especially in dry climates where fire is a concern.
- Reliability: The bundled design results in a more stable and reliable power supply with fewer outages.
- Aesthetics: The compact bundle of insulated cables offers a cleaner, less cluttered appearance compared to multiple spread-out conductors.
- Cost-effectiveness: Over the long term, ABC cables can be more economical due to lower maintenance requirements, reduced power losses, and an extended lifespan.
Construction
- Conductor: The cable typically has three phase cores made of circular, stranded, and compacted aluminium. Some configurations may also include conductors for street lighting.
- Conductor Screen: An extruded semi-conducting layer is applied over the conductor to ensure a uniform electric field and prevent partial discharges.
- Insulation: Each core is insulated with Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE), a material chosen for its high electrical strength, low dielectric losses, and weather resistance.
- Insulation Screen: Similar to the conductor screen, a semi-conducting layer is extruded over the insulation to provide a smooth interface and contain the electric field.
- Metallic Screen: A metallic screen, often a layer of copper tape, is included to contain the electrical field and protect against induced voltage. It is particularly important for medium and high-voltage cables.
- Outer Sheath: A final protective sheath of black high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) covers the entire cable assembly, offering UV resistance and protection from mechanical damage and corrosion.
- Messenger Wire: The insulated cores are twisted around a central high-tensile messenger wire, typically made of galvanised steel or aluminium alloy. This wire bears the mechanical stress and cable weight.
- Benefits
- Improved Safety: The insulated conductors drastically reduce the risk of electric shock and the chances of short circuits caused by external factors like tree branches, birds, or accidental contact.
- Higher Reliability: The robust insulation and bundled design lead to fewer faults and power outages compared to open-wire lines, especially during storms or in areas with high wind.
- Lower Power Losses: Insulated cables minimize corona discharge and leakage currents, which helps reduce technical losses during power transmission.
- Ease of Installation: The compact, self-supporting design is easier to install in congested urban areas with narrow lanes and in difficult terrains like hilly or forested regions.
- Cost-Effective: Reduced installation time and lower maintenance requirements, combined with a longer service life and reduced power theft, lead to lower overall system costs.
- Aesthetics: ABC systems offer a tidier appearance compared to multiple bare conductors strung on poles, which improves the visual landscape of urban and residential areas.
